4 string build Nomad98

I hope that doesn't bother slapping. Or digging in or something. I see that it's in level with the fretboard, but there's no frets so it might take hits from the strings. It's really innovative though, I like it.

It will be even/below the fingerboard. Plus the frets will give a little more clearance. The bass is for me and I don't slap but I do know that would be an issue. Just have to see how it works out?

Excellent...you're not too far from the Woodcraft if I'm not mistaken. Just finished a bass made with purpleheart boards from there. I dig your carving work!

Lonnybass

Lonnybass, you're not mistaken... I'm a mile or so west of Woodcrafters.

Glad you like the carving, I always keep track of your builds, nice work.

I see Art Nouveau rather than Alien. I look forward to seeing how you integrate the pickup and bridge into this design. Love the design so far. My wife also thinks it is beautiful.

Mondocognito, I hope you won't be too disappointed but right now I have a Wilkinson bridge, old-school Fender style, black with brass saddles. I'm really going to try for a vintage P bass type sound. The pickup will most likely be in a wooden cover but it will be a split P.

Nomad98, All designs that are actually produced are, in the end, made with real-world parts. As much as I would love to see an original wood or brass bridge that would blend in with what I envision as the aesthetic direction of this design, my only disappointment would be if this bass was not finished. Please keep the carving at the end of the neck as it is. There is no need to change it. What is the shape of the head?

Mondocognito, here is the headstock... keep in mind that the original design was not going to be carved so the headstock is maybe out of place with the rest of the bass?

The neck is Jazz width. Sorry for the bad photos.

Looks real good. Are you going to expose the veneer on the headstock edges some more? It would look nice with the way the body edge is showing it.

Ya, the headstock will have the edges rounded over but I have to be patient. The headstock is a little narrow, the tuners will be sitting really close to the edge. Once the holes are drilled for the tuners I will start shaping. I do like the idea of the veneers showing from the front.
