Bump is gone. I feel like I just had great results with acne medicine.
Is the square a pickup cover?

The OP actually routed the cover so it's big enough to fit two precision pickups.
I was about to say, you could fit an Enfield Super 8 pickup in that thing!!
The pickups at this time are a p bass and a jazz neck pup. Really the whole ramp thing is to have a lot of space to experiment with different pickup combos.
Can't post any updates right now but I will next week. Just saw Disney World and Universal... Two days of recouperation at the ocean and it's back to Minnesota.

Here is a little bit of an update...
Other than sanding the body of this bass (which has been a bit of a chore with the carving), I put my logo on the headstock. I carefully cut away the top veneer to expose the black veneer below with a few different X-acto knifes (sharp tip and chisels). A little cleanup with some needle files and sandpaper, it was done. I am going to fill the logo with superglue so the logo will be flush with the headstock surface.
(Shoulda taken the picture with the nice BLACK ebony nut that I have made. Oh well...)

Agreed! I imagine that the contrast between the two veneers is going to increase as the wood's sealed and lacquered/oiled, making it even more striking. Nice work with the knives, Nomad98! How would you rate the level of difficulty of cutting the top veneer to the accuracy you want?

I think if you take your time and don't cut too deep it's not too tough. My biggest problem is I have 50 year old eyes. I looked really funny with two pairs of readers on my head doing this. The real trick is holding back the chisel so you can cut but not slip (if that makes sense?).

This looks AMAZING. The headstock is a bit narrow for my taste, but hey, it's not my bass. The carving is incredible, it's got a very art-deco kind of understatement to it that works very well, especially on the truss rod cover and the way it matches the fretboard grain. I can't wait to see this thing with some gloss on it, it would look great with a gold stain.
