4 String For Life??

anyone think that they will never change from a for string...or is that just me

I cant stand any more strings then that my fingers feel cramped and I never find my self using that low B

anyone else?

Its not just you, but its definately not me. I am back on 4s for the first time in 5 years and I will go back to 5s one day, though maybe not as my main players are concerned. I just think I should have one because of the flexability the extra string gives me. But, I am happy with only 4s for now.

If you only want to play 4s, thats ok though. Nothing wrong with that.

that could be one of my problems all the 5's ive played the B feels really weak and floppy..cant stand that either...

I have and can play a 5 string, but I prefer to use a 4. I'd play the 5 if anyone asked for it, but so far nobody has. My sons get more use out of the 5.

Yes definitely. I've never played any more than 4 strings and I don't anticipate ever needing to. I'm a died-in-the-wool four banger and proud of it!


Not that there's anything wrong with 5 strings or even ERBs. If that's what your into, great. They're just not for me.

I was in a bowie trib and needed a 5 for low B C D stuff, then I went to high C for home practise, but when im doing my regular gigs the feel of the four string is perfect plus whenever I get the fidgets over the four string abilitys, I watch a berlin or jaco youtube vid and go...oh yeah,im grounded again, no probs with a four...

Different numbers of strings make different things easier to do. When I play on less than six strings, I can't help feeling that something critical is missing, and I recently bought a 7-string. But there are things I don't do often (or well) that are worth doing and much easier on a 4-string. Someday I may get a 4 to expand my musical vocabulary.

I only play 4s. I currently have a 5 that I got in a deal, but it's for sale. I can see their usefulness, but they're not for me.
