Has anyone one ever set a 4-string up with a low B? I love my low B. I have a 4 string project bass...I don't want to loose that low low low end. Any thoughts? besides keeping my 5-er around?

4-string with low B?

Get a set of strings for a 5er and string your bass BEAD and see if you like it.
If I played a 4 string I would tune it DGCF.
If I played a 4 string I would tune it DGCF.

A student tried this. It doesn't work incredibly well, but that's an overly cheap bass for you. He's now learnt that low B, while fun, won't suit him as much as drop D tuning does.

Play a bass setup to BEAD. I did, and couldn't get used to not having a G string because I use it as a reference point plus I need those higher notes.
Try it first before you go filing your nut - you might not like it. You can always undo the new setup it will need, but once you filed the nut - you can't go back.
Keep the 5er - they're not that hard to get used to.

There are a number of production model 4 strings tuned BEAD.
