40 Degrees....too cold to play outside?

You didn't mention how much Ca$h you'd be making on this gig. :). We have 4 solid pages of "NO !"...... If it pays well I'd get dressed up like a Penguin , leave my Bass at home and do the Gig playing my Fabulous Cordovox....the Hottest Instrument on the Bass Market Today !! 127 different Bass Buttons to Choose from and Guaranteed NOT to Freeze. 🥶 C'mon....... Play that Gig Man. Let us know how it goes. 🪗 ☃️

I played in a large tent for a church in Conifer one winter. Load in and setup was brutal. The propane heaters were not fired up until we got there. They kinda got warm by service time but sound check and rehearsal was cold. I really don't know how we did it. Wouldn't want to do it again.

We have a gig booked for next weekend at a restaurant with an outdoor seating/dining area and a place for a band to set up and play. They have no indoor space for a band. One of our band members has already checked the extended forecast and 40 degrees is predicted that night. He sent out a text to the rest of us asking if 40 degrees is too cold to play. Nobody responded but I think that 40 degrees is too cold for a band to play outside, even with heaters going. This same venue cancelled us last weekend because of rain and storms and the season for gigs here is winding down. I'm thinking that we probably should tough it out and play if only to get us set up for playing there in regular rotation next year.

Thoughts?

Does the venue have heaters for people to sit in the garden?
Unless it's really comfy outside, you'll end up playing to an empty garden and cold.

Basically, rather than asking here, I'd be checking the venue's provision for such event before even considering playing. If the setup is not appropriate, it would probably work better off not to play, both for you and the venue.

Lots of good comments...thanks. A lot of questions I don't answers for, but some I do:
1. Money is not great. Right in the middle of "decent" IMO. But it is a new venue for bands and we're a new band and there really aren't very many places to play around here.
2. As this is their first Fall having bands I don't know if they are set up with heaters for customers (and the band) or not or if they are just figuring this out on the fly.
3. The venue is owned by a guy who two of the band, in their previous band, had played for before, before 2020.
4. I feel like I don't want to be the one to say no because of possible cold weather. I have some finger(tip)less gloves that I can wear.
5. The gig is from 8-11 so there's a good chance of it being cold.
6. We played last weekend outside and it was 80 but there was a briskness in the air. Fall is definitely here.
7. RIght now here, at 10:30 AM it's 57 degrees but it's overcast and there is a little wind. It would be uncomfortable playing outside...doable but uncomfortable.

Why are y'all guessing about the accommodations for the cold (heaters, windbreak, etc.). Be proactive and ask them. This all should have been settled when you first booked.

Also, as per another actuve thread here, don't let them cancel without pay after you set up and they figure out nobody wants of eat in the cold.
