Maple- Definitely liking the maple walnut contrast from head to tail. The hotness for sure.
Your "Ric" headstock is a definite improvement on the original.
That's looking great! I have walnut lust, yeah, I know, Too Much Information. I always liked the "racing stripe" headstocks. Are you doing a volute on this one after the conflict with tuners on Mashup 1.0?
This is turning out to be a real beauty, Maple(&walnut)glo!
Thanks. Again, I owe a lot of the modified headstock design to @JIO
I also really like the maple/walnut contrast.
Thanks, I likely won't need a volute on this one but I left enough "meat" in case I still want one.
Thanks!
Although it pretty much looks the same, I did a little more sanding and shaping. At least it's cooled down to like 105° today.

Also, I was looking at the orange version, and I do not like those big, black, plastic pickup covers. So I gave in to my feelings andembraced the dark side, bought a set of these:

Lace Alumitone Bass Bar 4's in chrome. I figured I'm putting a lot of time, effort, and resources into this build, I might as well like the way it looks when it's done. I've heard good things about these pickups, and I think the radical look and innovative design works well with this build. It's funny to think that a pair of these cost more than twice as much as the Marceline Axe bass build.
Lace Pickups Bassbars Demo - YouTubeAs I look through the various builds here I look for inspiration for pieces for my next build, those pickups look very cool - retro-modern. I need to find some sound clips, but those look like a good starting point!
I agree. Both the split coil mode, and the humbucking mode are noiseless and sound nice. One interesting note on the split coil mode - both magnets are fully engaged in both modes.Sweet! I, having recently installed a pair of chrome BassBars in the PentaBird, wholeheartedly approve.
Although I didn't, I recommend you wire them to a coil-split (or whatever the Alumitone equivalent should be called) switch. In full-on mode, they're pretty thick and hot!
I suspect that it's not so much a traditional coil split as on a traditional humbucker as much as a coil tap on the transformer.I agree. Based on what I can see of the wiring I think you are right.I suspect that it's not so much a traditional coil split as on a traditional humbucker as much as a coil tap on the transformer.
I have done passive and it sounds great. Are you guys running a preamp with these or just passive? I have never built without a preamp, maybe this would be my first, but I really like having the knobs on my bass rather than tweaking the amp.
