412 vs 2x15 vs the fridge

This thread has everything, including irrelevant car comparisons!

FTR, I load and set up my 810's completely by myself with no help from anyone no problem. I don't even want help. They'll just get in the way and/or scratch up my cab.
 
Thanks for all the input so far! Although I feel I may have asked too general of a question and caused unnecessary arguments lol. I don't want the fridge because of the weight. Never used 12's and am curious if the 15's can fill medium venues with no pA support. I know it's hard to compare this stuff with many different companies putting out cabs with all kinds of capable drivers. There has been some great suggestions so far though! Also there isn't a whole bunch of options at my local store to try. Basically Mesa, GK, and Traynor. (I'm from the great white north, if that matters in any way)

However, I agree 100% with the guy who said that if he cannot get the volume needed out of 2x15's, then he is doing something wrong. The loudest rig I ever owned was a 2x15 with 150 tube head. Incredibly loud. We ran sound (our p.a.) for a few outdoor festivals and I always carried the 2x15, and, seriously, 90% of the time I took it out of the p.a. (set up for 300-400 people). That rig was loud.

Basic area calculations. All things being equal more speaker area = more volume. Of course all things are never equal but it should give you a starting point. Double the 212 and 115 to get your 412 and 215 areas.

Yes. The 412 & 215, combined, would displace roughly 804cc.

Or (behind the curtain where Carol Merrill is standing ;) )...

do a single 15/6 (3015LF & 6ND410) to displace 845cc.

Think the combined sensitivity of the 412/215 would carry the day? Maybe, I don't know. Those are not quite right because they do not take into account the surround of the speaker which is usually about one inch. If we do this we get the following areas for the basic sizes in square inches and square centimeters :

10 : 50.3, 324.3
12 : 78.5, 506.7
15 : 132.7, 856.3

The mathematical values are pretty close to what Eminence specifies for their speakers, within 2 or 3%. Here are their numbers in square centimeters :

BP102 (a 10) : 334.5
3012HO (a 12) : 532.4
3015LF (a 15) : 881.1

However, surface area is only part of the displacement equation. The other part is the excursion and it varies widely. For the three speakers I listed it is 6.2, 6.2, and 9.6 mm respectively. Obviously, speakers do NOT have equal excursions. This is just one reason why you can not generalize based on speaker sizes.
