4th of July Gigs?

Played for a block party, I mentioned the details elsewhere. With the economy in the toilet in this state and every state worker wondering how long they were going to get paid in real money, practically nobody shelled out into the tip jar to hear music so I made $35 for 2 hours playing. I didn't care, it was the first gig I played it 25 years. That I got paid at all was a bonus, considering I don't like many of the songs (all originals). I don't have to play with the group again until Labor Day and I'm going to look for another band with music I like in the meantime.
Played at my own house!!! threw down basically 3 sets of 100% improv jamming, prob busted out 2 songs total and that was in the middle of the improv. played from 9 pm - sunrise and threw down hard. People ****in' loved it and told us we should start touring etc. etc. (ps. our age range is 18-19 yrs) it was saweeet.!
We got a last minute call to play a popular pub in uptown. The crowd was a little thin as expected but the manager complimented us and paid us $100 extra (go figure).
Sorry to say, no gigs over the holiday weekend.
OTOH, it gave me 3 terrific days to spend with my wife (our 10th anniversary was July 3). I'm gonna be crazy busy in August and Sept. so it worked out good that way.

Not to nit pick but you guys are flying the flag improperly.
I did some work for a private party on the beach Friday night, then on Saturday I jammed with some friends.
We played on the 2nd for a July 4th Kickoff. The gig was advertised on 8 radio stations. We had a live remote from a radio show, lots of giveaways and $1.50 beer and hot dogs. It was at the dog track in Naples, FL. An inside gig too. It was a real treat. It would've been nice if more people showed up, but it was a blast. They liked us so much they booked a few more gigs with us on the spot. Gotta love it.
Played a private party on July 3. 1 hour and a half set. It was rainy out and they had this tiny little tent set up. We were all crammed under this 8 by 8 foot tent, it worked. House was in a subdivision on the outskirts of town. We had the cops called on us, twice. It was pretty wild.

July 3 - Headlined Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank. Played to over 8,000 people.
July 4 - Headlined the Bloomfield NJ fireworks at Foley Field - over 10,000 people!
Both were very cool, very fun gigs!

We were the featured musical performers at the city's Independence Day festivities. We played from 7:00 to 9:15, and then came the fireworks show.
It was hotter than blazes, but it was a good crowd, the band was "on", and even the sound guy did a good job for us. I even talked him into running me back a line level FOH feed that I ran into a Fostex recorder, so I have a nice recording of the show.
The crowd was kids to senior citizens, so we played a w-i-d-e variety.

I played at the 40th annual Smoke-In on the Mall in Washington DC. We played OK, and after us was a great band out of Baltimore, called Telesma. Guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/djembe, female singer, and a guy on digeridoo and a thing like a wooden jewsharp, I didn't catch the name of it. The bassist had a beautiful 6-string Brubaker, they are made right here in Gaithersburg MD. They played what he described as "psychedelic tribal rock", and they tore it up! Stompin' beats, crazy guitar, the gal was wailing away, bassist did a bunch of tapping... their set was way too short. Crowd loved it, I loved it, gotta hear more of that! During their second song, our guitarist walked up to me and said "I like them more than us!" I had to agree!
We were done by 5:30, but I stayed for the fireworks. First time in my life seeing the DC fireworks, even though I was born there. Absolutely the best I've ever seen!
And traffic getting out of town was awful, but I didn't much care by then.

Cool! We were just down the street in Rumson. A few years ago we did the Bloomfield fireworks, which I will always remember because that was when I was still a sub in the band, therefore reading charts, and the chart for Billie Jean specifically said transpose up a half step to G, so I did. Everyone else didn't...Took me a few bars to catch that, not a good tune to do that on! (Is there a good tune for playing a half step up from the band...)
The flag was put up by the event coordinators, not us. There were flags all over the place.

Our band played at a place called dougs, it was one of our first gigs we got payed for, actually the second. It was fun for about half the time. Our guitarist, whose name I will not display, was REALLY angry because I wouldnt turn my amp down. Well, you know, I like the actually hear the bass over the drums. So, right in the middle of a song called Freewill and he shoved his guitar head right into my mic before the bass solo. I was really angry because there was MASSIVE feedback, and nobody likes that unless their deaf, right? So, as the gig was done, and I do regret this for later shows, I grabbed his guitar and stomped on it. Man, I was really pissed. He was like "Okay, dickhole, im leaving the band" and, as I was blind with fury "Sure, you ******* suck anyway" I did mean that though. So now we dont have a rhythm guitarist, but I dont actually see a need for one. We got paid extra because he left, individually I mean. Fun night, fun night.
Well.. Seeing as I'm in Canada, our 1st of July is like your 4th.. So..
We played at the main festival. It was pretty fun, except for the fact that I didn't bring a backup bass (first time EVER), and I broke the E string.

Played in Enfield, Il. It was the best gig of my life so far. My dad was there and he came up and sang Free's "All right now". It was fun, everyone was into it, and We got paid 250. We played for 3 hours, no breaks! I wish we would've recorded it.
I have been playing a string of bizarre gigs lately... this one (on the 4th) was for the Rio Nido Home Owners Assoc. in Northern Cali. What was bizarre is that the home owners assoc was created as an anti hippy group and we are a hippy reggae band. We were filling in for a band that has played this gig for 15 years.
We did a crash course and learned bunch of standards from the 1920s, 30, 40s and 50s (as it was an all ages crowd) to supplement our predominately reggae set list.
250 people showed up, partied... and loved us. In fact, they invited us back next year. Just goes to prove what my daughter says: "everyone love reggae!!!"
