Note: The question isn't "the 5 best ...?".
Though they may be the same, they may not as well.

I have a lot of favorite players but I thought choosing just 5 would be a fair challenge.

"Favorite " is obviously personal, informed by our individual experiences, musical philosophy and beliefs, and our own musical journeys.

My Fave 5 all hit me inside with both emotion and amazement.

    JPJ
    Jamerson
    McCartney
    Berry Oakley
    Tommy Shannon

    Who are yours?

  2. Not in any particular order:

    Duff Mckagen
    Victor Wooten
    Steve Harris
    Alex Webster
    Geddy Lee

These guys are the main points of influence in my bass playing.

  3. Also not in any particular order:

Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band)
    James Jamerson (The Funk Brothers)
    Seth Bolt (NEEDTOBREATHE)
    Phil Joel (Newsboys)
    Paul McCartney (The Beatles)

    Yup!

1- Duff McKagan- Solid, yet funky on a Precision played with a pick. Also my #1 influence.
2- Geddy Lee- Because he's just that good, and sounds great playing and singing.
3- Ken Casey- Yeah, he's a punk rocker, but he's much better than many give him credit for being.
4-The Flea isn't all that when it comes to slapping, but he's very solid when paired with Chad Smith, and fits the Chili Peppers like a glove.
5- Marcus Miller- That man is just that good.

  7. The order may change occasionally but these are reliably my five favorites:
    Geddy Lee
    Mike Watt
    Karl Alvarez
    Bob Thomson
    John Paul Jones

*Geddy Lee..Just by his name, you can tell he is a bassist.

*Nikki Sixx..He gets alot of hate on talkbass, but his style is perfect for Motley Crue.

*Duff mckagan..The tone on Use Your Illusions is insane.

    *Lemmy..He is 100% original.

*Pete Overend Watts..He made the Gibson Thunderbird cool!
