5 hole J bass control plate?

why 5 holes? surely there's a less cramped and unwieldy way of doing it?

Maybe send an email to ESP and ask them, they make the Amaze bass that has five knobs on a Fender Jazz-style control plate (Vol, Bal, 3-band eq). They started off as a parts company in the 80's, so they might still be able to sell parts to people. I don't imagine it would be a particularly cheap option though, as they aren't technically a parts retailer anymore. Maybe just have a look at parts companies that sell in your country, there are a fair few around.

jeez, rather than all that crammed in there and hanging over the edges, just add a side jack and use a normal 4-hole plate.

I, for one, like everything on top so I don't have to "hunt" for anything. Granted, the bass I currently gig does have a side jack, and although I like almost everything else about the bass, I do not like hunting for the jack.

that's just it; with so many controls all jammed close together like that, i would be "hunting" for the right one in the middle of the song!

hunting for the jack on the side shouldn't be a big deal, it's not like you're doing so during the songs or (for us one-bass players) even between songs.

I have had others on stage pop my cord out, and other incidents where, yes, I have had to hunt for the cord and jack, sometimes in the middle of a song. YMMV.
