5 String Bass Strings

I just purchased my first five string Bass and was wondering what type of Bass strings would be good for playing the Blues. One of the reasons I bought the five String is because I love the sound that Nathan East has when he plays with Clapton. I'ts a warm sound with a lot of punch. Can any of you five string Bass players give me any suggestions on some strings that can give me that type of tone. The Bass I bought is a Peavey Millenium AC and the strings that came with it are too bright.

Start with lowering the treble control on the bass a little for brand new strings that havent gotten broken in yet. Also adjust your pups heights for best to you tone both solo and in blended together both on full. Your bridge pup may be overly high compared to the neck one.

I suggest trying some nickel rounds for a warm but noticeably roundwound tone, if you want a more percussive sound try some flatwounds.

I wouldn't ditch your new strings just yet. Play your bass for a few weeks and see if they don't sound a little better broken in. You can always eq out the brightness if you want to.

Buy a brand you like

The low B is really nice for blues.

My favorite strings are Thomastik Infeld PowerBass. They're a bit slinky, so a light touch works well. Odd gauges, but very powerful down low. Spendy though.

But yeah, play around with EQ and breaking in the strings before running off to throw away a new set...

nickel rounds would get you a tone near nathan east.. and slapping a lot I'd choose DR Fat Beams for active basses and Hi beams for passive ones..
