So, this build is almost finished. (just need to make some pickups for it.)
Specs:
37" - 34" scale
Neck through, core is 9 piece maple and wenge. (m-w-m-w-m-w-m-w-m).
Wenge fretboard, with small frets.
Dual action spoke nut truss rod.
Wings are koa top, black dyed birch veneer, swamp ash, and wenge back.
Headless, using abm headless hardware.
Tung oil finish.
Pickup(s) will be an offset "P" pickup.
I managed to get the building and finishing done in about 2 1/2 weeks.
Started by gluing up the core, then thicknessing all of the wood for the build.
While the wings were gluing, I made MDF templates for the entire build.
I then routed the wings, put a roundover on the back and chamfered the top to prepare it for carving with a thumb plane.
After gluing the wings to the core, I used a Safe-T-Planer to level out the back and front, as well as thickness the neck.
The neck was carved, the fingerboard was radiused to 16", and the frets were installed. (Small frets are SO much easier to install than jumbos.)
The cavities were then routed out.
After that, it was hours and hours of sanding, in preparation of oiling.
The controls are just a volume and a tone.
Now I just need to order some parts for the pickups. Will be winding to around 11K resistance with 43g wire.
