I know it's OT but what string gauges are you using for your piccolo bass? Thanks.
You could get a used G&L Tribute L-2500 for around $500. Very versatile. Is there a good quality 5 string bass that could be had for between $300-$500?
I've been looking at these so far:
Yamaha TRBX350
Ibanez SR405EQM
Jackson JS3QV
Schecter Stiletto Stealth 5
If anyone has any opinions on any of these or has suggestions for some used basses to look into instead, I'd love to hear them!

The Tributes are a lot of bang for the buck. I personally, love the sound. I play the US L-2500. Here is a mash up of the M2500 and L2500. Both can be found used.A lot of people have been suggesting G&Ls. I don't know much about them
I would do the opposite and buy a good used one. If you don't bond with it you can resale for the same price you paid. And there's a good chance you will not like a cheap 5-string.I'm looking for one too, but it's got to be C H E A P ! ! !
since I don't know if I'll bond with one.
I have a Yamaha TRBX-505 and I like it A LOT. Passive mode is vintage sounding and active mode is more modern. The neck is perfect for me.Is there a good quality 5 string bass that could be had for between $300-$500?

modern sterile nasally tone rather than big thick fat bass tone.you the second person to say they're not your preference and I'm just curious why? Want to make sure I'm not missing something
One good feature is the 5 way preset tone toggle switch.
Shecters are fantastic, and are a worthwhile addition to anybody’s list.I haven't found many people talking about Schecters and even fewer talking about that one specifically. It's the pickup combo that caught my eye. Maybe I've been living under a rock but I haven't seen many P/Humbucker combos. Usually you just see PJs everywhere. It's really pushing the limit of my budget but it seemed interesting enough to look at.
what's your experience with the brand?
If you like heavy instruments and tiny string spacing where your fingers will trip over each other...yes! Very well made instruments though.Shecters are fantastic, and are a worthwhile addition to anybody’s list.
I frequent pawnshops on a regular basis, and I've seen A LOT of 5 string basses for very good prices, but was never interested in one until I found my 5 sting Fender.
A few years ago I scored my '94 Fender Jazz V Plus for $204.
I really wasn't looking for a 5 string,but who's going to pass on a deal like that.
Great deals on good used 5 strings are out there, but you just have to put in a little time to hunt them down.

I bought my fender jazz 5 standard “used” in that price range. I say “used” because I purchased it off eBay from a mom and pop music store that I believe was just clearing out old inventory for the newer player series. When I got the bass it still had plastic on the pickgaurd and tuners as if was never taken out of the box. Great basses for modding in particular because there are so many parts made for them.Is there a good quality 5 string bass that could be had for between $300-$500?
