5 string passive bass?

Squier P5. Stock pickup is fine. I recommend changing the tuners.

I had a VM P5 that I modded that should be below the budget with money left over to replace the tuners, pots and pickups. The neck was straight, balance was good. I even painted it Sherwood Green (the actual reason I bought it was to paint a white bass a vintage color so when it wore through it would look like a white undercoat) and only sold it to make room for more projects. I gigged with that bass, may make another in Lake Placid Blue.

Schecter makes a P-5 passive bass. There’s also the Model T session which looks fantastic but is active. If I really had to have passive, I’d buy the Model T and swap the pups and preamp for a set of Geezers - gotta love solderless!

I'm a Stingray5 guy who likes to have some kind of Fender killer 5er around (not much into Fender's pricing and QC really, love the tones, don't like the 5ers' neck profiles). Currently I have a Schecter CV-5 and it's been good to me for a solid 3 years, way more than most other attempts I've had (several Yamaha BBs, 2 pickup Ibby ATK, Maruszczyk Jake 5a+, Fender Am Dlx P5). It's 35" scale and the neck is as skinny as it gets (sharp C, less than 20mm @ fret #1. Does several flavors of P and J impersonation. It's passive and has 2 humbuckers that can be individually switched parallel-single-series. This is just the neck pickup in single coil mode.

I have the ash/rosewood combination so I'm another vote for the Schecter CV5. My LaklandSkyline 1501 w/Aguilar can be switched passive, but it's tamer than the CV5, deeper neck, better B, another $500.

Love my Carvin PB5. I'm about to order a PB4 to my own specs. It will be passive, as is my 5. Sounds like a P, plays like a dream, and is a real looker as well:

As you've no doubt noticed by now asking for recommendations here means tell me what you own and ignore everything else.

For decades the Yamaha BB series has been nailing the Fender tones right up until someone sees it's not a Fender. The best P tone I ever had was a Yamaha 415, the 435 was recommended but any passive BB with a non reverse P will give a killer P tone. Just don't tell people it's a Yamaha.

In my original post I didn't realize the OP was in the EU. Clearly the answer is then a Sandberg California VS Passive. 1,419 Euro new from them, maybe it's a little lower through a dealer.
