5 string tunings

Hello All,

I’m currently in standard BEADG tuning for 5 string but I’m curious of what other lower tunings there are but still can achieve the notes used often for me in the standard tuning? For example I’m itching to play Breaking Benjamin songs but they play much lower tunings. Hope that makes sense! Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the Breaking Benjamins. Have you tried transcribing their songs to figure out what notes are used?

My personal two favorite 5-string tunings are:

BEADG (standard)
and
CEADG

Also, did you know: You can play any song, in any key, in standard tuning? Apologies if I am pointing out the obvious, but some beginners do not know this basic "Music 101" fact, I thought it would be worth mentioning. ;)

So if the tablature is saying tune to A#, F, A#, E# all I would need to do is find those open notes in standard tuning?

I would throw that garbage tablature in the trash (whoever came up with it obviously knows nothing about music theory) and learn the song by another method (such as by ear, or asking your teacher for help).

But to answer your question: Yes, it is easy to play the notes A#/Bb and E#/F on a standard-tuned bass. Have you learned the notes of the fingerboard yet? If not, STOP what you are doing, and learn the notes on the fingerboard, right now. :)
