I would just go to one of his gigs and take it. I'd even do it right in front of him and see if he wanted to do something about it but I'm an *******. It's not the money it's the principal of the matter.

On the topic point, I've decided I'm going to let it go. Just a bit of angst seeing someone using gear that I know is mine. Life is too short.
Compared to the guy who is fighting with Rybski basses, or the numerous folk fighting with SGD, my complaints are petty.

Hehe the Century Hotel, boy have I got some stories about THAT place, of starting at 1am on a Tuesday morning,being paid in jugs of beer, the owner R@#%*@ being a big horse dealer, and I don't mean GGs. Someone should write a book about that place, no wonder MoC were there then, notorious junkie one of em at least that I know of.

Get your stuff back. It's not theirs by any stretch. Even if it's a pick. Cables, mic and misctands, they took "fringe benefit" advantage of the situation, and maybe smokescreened this, in order to make possession of the gear. Sort of, they decided themselves that this "fringe benefit" should be activated. On purpose or indeliberately. If they have som guts they should've returned it themselves, you shouldn't even have to come to them to pick it up. Even if they think you've behaved like a schmuck while in the band. I never ever encountered a band like this. However, once we told a person, face to face, that he just had to pick up his gear within a certain time period, otherwise he should consider his equipment "gone". But that was a whole rig, with amps cabs and pedalboards and all. He did. It was not a band dissolvment, it was a rehearsal space move, that everyobody had to empty before they started to tear the place down. So it's not that we owned the gear, it was that it was in hazard for being judged as scrap that can be tossed in the trash container. He did fetch it, after everyone else had cleared their gear from the space. But we had to nag pretty bad before that lazy slacker, finally did the move.

BTW the only thing I won't claim back is just picks, old strings. I am nuisance to others about this. However, if it's a stone pick I would turn into bulldozer mode and claim it back.

I am not saying don't talk to the guy and see if he will be decent about it, you never know, but don't get all bent about the whole thing. If he wants to be unreasonable let him. You don't need the stress or drama...

FWIW, I had a mic cable that failed to come back to me from a jam session I guess it was 10 years ago now. I know the guy still has it, and I honestly don't care. It was always scratchy and I never wanted to take it apart and fix the solder joint that was causing the problem. Let him deal with the junked cable. By the same token though, we had talked it over after HE mentioned I left the thing. I flat told him it was okay, and if he wanted it, he could have it... Even told him about the bad XLR end joint...

The stuff I want to keep though, is getting marked. I actually found those metallic sharpies that were posted earlier. NOT in an office supply house though. Neither Office Depot nor Staples near me had them, but whoda thunkit, the Krogers (Grocery chain for those that don't know) by me had them... I am going to mark my gear accordingly...

I am VERY tempted to obtain permanent type "Asset control tags" from an industrial supplier. I have some small business assets, and a lot of my music equipment, particularly vocal stuff, does double duty as business equipment, so it sort of makes sense...
