New member. Hello!
When I got out of the Marines in the early 90's I went back to my home town to hang out with my buddies. I showed up with a guitar that I had been learning for a few years. They were like, "Oh no, you can't play guitar, we all play guitar. We need a bass player." So, that is was I did. I had a good teacher at the time who helped me to understand keys, how scales work, relative minors, circles of 5ths, etc. We would play 8 hours a day in my friends basement. Good times.
Ended up playing with some pretty talented people when I went to school at Full Sail in Florida. From there I kind of bounced around Chicago and ended up hitting a dead end with drugs and alcohol. My own issues, and issues that the people surrounding me had. It was a boat afloat but with holes all in the bow. Off topic, but I have been alcohol free for since the age of 27, and don't miss it a drop.
Many years since have I played at home on electric guitar, synths, and occasionally a bass. I recently had a daughter, my first, and it struck me that it would be a sad thing if I never record the songs that I've been lucky to wright over the years. That started me down a new mission to get back on my game and have a basic level of solid gear that I can record my songs with.
With Bass, I'm out of the loop. I'm in awe and humbled by the level of talent on this forum. You guys are awesome! I took my best uninformed shot at getting a little home practice rig that I could also record with. I got a blue, 2021 Charvel San Dimas 4 string PJ for $650 on reverb, supposedly mint. It will show up next week. Also got a Paul Jones Bass Double 4+. I have been able to play that a little bit this last weekend on a borrowed Ibanez. However, I am looking forward to hearing it with the Charvel. I don't know if I did okay with the PJB, but I liked the small foot print as my studio room is not huge.
My intention here on the forum is to learn. There is a lot for me to learn about music production, and being a much better bass player. I appreciate having a solid forum community to learn from. So, cheers to you all, and thanks!
