$50 canoe paddle?

For sale locally. Hondo II H830

Usual age wear - loose 1/4" jack, scratchy pots, etc. Seller says he couldn't get the truss rod to turn. Not sure if he tried with the neck on or off. Listed at $85. Offered $40. Said he'd take $50.

Don't need it but can always use a new project to keep me out of trouble. :)

Thoughts?

if it turns = $50
if it doesn't = $0

That's pretty much where I'm at with it. Never seen this type of truss rod nut before.

Are there four of those holes to allow adjustment without taking the neck off? Or is it just the two holes to put an allen wrench through to tighten? Seller says he didn't have a tool that fits it.

Saw that on the local CL. They had been asking $100. Looks interesting enough. Hope you can get it to turn. looks like anything you can slide in that hole should turn it if not overtightened already The listing mentioned high action.

Is that more walnut or midnight wine?

$50? Why not. Looks decent and it the truss rod works, you could have a good, cheap player on your hands.

I had the matching jazz bass, same p.u.'s is that a wine red color?
Walnut.

No special tool required. Anything that will fit in the hole, and can be used like a lever. Like this little tiny screwdriver...

I took a chance once on a bass (not this make or model) with a truss rod that wouldn't turn. It had a bow in it like a banana. Figured, worse case scenario I'd just replace the neck if it didn't work out - I got it cheap enough that this was a viable alternative. I de-tuned the bass, examined the bass, sure enough the truss rod wasn't budging. Well to cut a long story short, I put it back in the gig bag and left it for another day forgetting to tune the bass strings up to tension. Well, turned out to be a week when I got back to the bass - in that time, the neck without the string tension to counter had straightened a little, I tried to adjust the truss rod slowly, heard a "creak", then the truss rod was able to turn and I was then able to adjust it. Seems like that little bit of the neck straightening out was just enough to get the truss rod moving again.
Not saying that's the case here, the truss rod could be frozen, maxxed out and can't be fixed this way, but worth a shot. Would I take the gamble if I were in your place? I would stay firm on the offer of $40. It does look pretty cool, electronics are easy to replace anyway as long as the pickup works.
