$50 canoe paddle?

When you work on the truss rod nut bridge and tuners, lubricate them well ahead of time and let it soak a bit, like overnight.
I have been surprised over the years how many instruments I have repaired or set up seem never to have had this " maintenance 101" operation ever done.
If the truss rod nut comes all the way off, you can often gain some adjustment by putting a washer under it.
Heating the neck and or removing it and putting some weight on it with it supported at both ends can bring one back too.

For sale locally. Hondo II H830

Usual age wear - loose 1/4" jack, scratchy pots, etc. Seller says he couldn't get the truss rod to turn. Not sure if he tried with the neck on or off. Listed at $85. Offered $40. Said he'd take $50.

Don't need it but can always use a new project to keep me out of trouble. :)

Thoughts?

Paddle necks are available on EBay. Usually less than $65 to your door, if on special.

Following up on my earlier question, how problematic is this missing screw? Seems the gear would't be held on too good without it. I'm guessing it's a fairly common machine screw I could get at Lowes. (I hope).

It becomes very problematic when you are tuning up just before the next set and the gear pops off and rolls way under the stage.

As stated above, it's a big problem.

That's a machine screw, possibly metric. I wouldn't call it "common". Lowe's isn't really set up for selling that kind of thing. They *might* have it, but don't count on it. An industrial supply place like MSC is your best bet. But they won't sell you a single bolt.

Yeah, a new set of tuners (or even a single not-quite-matching one) puts me in for way more than I'd want to spend on this.
Looking at the picture, it looks like there's a string on it, not sure if it's at tension.
If you're able to get the bass for $40, I wouldn't buy a replacement tuner until you determine whether the neck is salvageable and if you can get the truss rod to work. If you do, then you can evaluate if you like the bass enough to invest any more money into it and buy replacement tuners for it.

Any decent mom 'n' pop hardware should have these bolts. I have purchased many for similar applications.

Good luck finding a decent mom 'n pop hardware store.

Not a problem. Between my driveway and the nearest Lowe's are three mom 'n' pop's and an ACE franchise that might as well be. With regard to bolts, screws, washers, etc. I'm set; and unlike with big boxes like Lowe's, I can buy in single units if that's all I need. No coercion into the realm of plastic baggies.

BTW, glad to see you back among us. I had bumped into your avatar while perusing some old threads and realized how long it had been since I had seen anything recent from you. Good to have you home.

Thanks for the kind words. It's good to be back.
