500w head + 300w cab = bad idea?

Hi! I am needing some help here please. I bought the Hartke hx112 for coffe gigs, and my amp is a Peavey Tour 700, wich handless 700w at 4 ohms, and 500 at 8 ohms.
Can I use this head with the cab at 8 ohms?? (it is switcheable) or is it going to blow away the cab?

thank you !!

ergbass, it won't hurt the speaker at all as long as you don't get really loud. You mentioned that it's a coffee house gig. If that's the case, no worries; they don't want you to roar in there anyway. But at a reasonable volume, your speaker should be completely cool. Good luck.

It'll be fine if you're careful. Just be aware that your amp is absolutely ready to tear your speakers to pieces very quickly if you go overboard. You'll probably be able to tell whether it's in trouble though, you'll hear loud distortion if it is.
