The thing about The Sovtek 50w bass head is that it really won't distort with the toobs I have in there (sovteks obv.). Its all about the headroom.

The tubes are from the 90's so I guess that is older, huh?

How about one of these. Just put 4 new Sovtek power tubes in, sounds great. Run it through an Epifani PS115 old school for days!!

I live at the far end of the end of the Earth. There is a Laney AOR 50W'er for sale. It's also a guitar amp, supposed to be a near copy of a JCM 800.

Is the average guitar amp going to spin my wheels? I have no way of trying anything out.

I had this Laney as a guitar amp for a while. It was voiced very trebley. So beware!!!

Between 50 and 100 watts (more or less), I have an old Vox AC50, a blackface Bassman, and a couple of amps made by Triumph Electronics in England, one labeled Triumph and the other with no logo, but it probably had a Vampower or Jennings logo at one time. I've gigged with all of these as bass amps, usually with a Bergantino single 12 or 3 x 10, including gigs with about a dozen players including multiple drummers and horn players where I was not going through the PA.

But for really lower wattage tube bass amps, I have an old Domino "Bass" head, which puts out about 1.5 clean watts from a single tube rectified EL84. It originally came with a Fane 12" speaker in an open backed cabinet which I do not have. As a bass amp in that range it is truly an artifact of it's era (early 60s). It's a screamer for guitar.

I also have a Selmer Bassist Major head which has two EL84s and is more suited to guitar. That one is kind of noisy, I need to have a small mod done to it where the power transformer is moved further away from the main circuit board.

Cool! I want a tiny tube bass combo for tongue twistingly tasty tube tone at home. A 6" 1-15 watt combo would be so much fun.

Perhaps it's the gain control for the sweepable midrange circuit. What does it sound like it's doing?

nice to see some Showmans in there . For my upright rig I use a '65 blackface through a homemade sealed cab w/an old EVM-15B series 2 and another homemade openback cab w/a little Celestion 10 that has a high pass x-over at around 500 Hz. Spreads the highs very nicely on stage. I also use one of those LR Baggs Para-DI boxes for the piezo p/u's. The rig works well, too, w/my Turner RB-4, but it shines for the upright w/more than enough power for my needs. Oh, and I jumper both the channels, seems to give the overall sound some more punch .

Just got a 1985 Marshall JCM800 Superlead 100w... pics later.

Sounds quite similar to my old Superbass when I cranked that, but the volume is much more managable with the JCM.
