Wow, that is a really impressive collection of valve heads! Do you have a favourite for gigging, tone, studio etc?

My favorite amp is the EBS T90. This amp sounds like a Ampeg B15 but has more power.
For practice I use mostly the Music Man 100B. Wonderful tone and a really good EQ.

Do you gig with this? Do you ever feel like you need more headroom/volume. just wondering if it would compete with a loud drummer or whether it would get pretty dirty in the process (not a bad thing!).
Have been pondering an Ashdown CTM100 or an EBS T90, i have an LB30 which i love but i find its not quite loud enough to compete with a loud drummer (it gets pretty close though)

It will depend more on your cab(s) rather than wattage. I run an Ashdown LB30 (Little Bastard) with an EA 2-10 cab. It will take your face off. I have yet to put bass in my wedge or ear monitors since I started using this rig. 30W and stupid loud.

Jepp, it depends on the cabs. Normally I use two Hughes & Kettner QS210Pro:

That´s enough for monitoring and for little club-gigs. Mostly we are playing about a PA.
For Gigs without a good PA I use H&K QS410Pro + QS115Pro.

I owned a LB30 too. This amp is loud enough for little (acoustic) gigs, but was not loud enough for a "normal" gig.

How do you guys handle bigger gigs? I've got a '72 Bassman Ten 50w and it's totally amazing. So grindy and has THE sound I've been looking for, but it's just not very loud! Do you just stick a good mic in front and let the FOH guy take care of it? Slightly worried about how the lows will translate through PA systems...

A flat response mic is best you can do. I use a $100 AKG P2.

Are you 50w guys ever scared to run fuzzes when you're at gigging volume? Is there any real risk in having a brassmaster in front of my bassman when it's at 70% output? What about something like a meatbox?

'71 Sunn 200s w/ 215 JBL Concert cab. First good amp I bought in '72.
'74 Sunn Concert w/ Coliseum SPL8028 EV12L + Transducer 18. Bought late '80s.

For fun can daisy chain the 200s into the Concert head running the 200s speaker out into the 12" in the 8028 @ 8Ω and the Concert out into the 18" @ 8Ω. Get punchy SS bass and blend in a little tubey goodness thru the 12".
SPL8028 also has an internal passive crossover between the speakers option @ 4Ω.

how is it on bass? You get a decent low end and volume out of it?

To answer the question as to how to get sound to the FOH, I have a full Sunn 200s rig the speaker cab has had a parallel out jack added. The signal is sent to a Radial JDI box, so the DI signal the house gets includes the output tubes and transformer. I still like to be miced too, when possible to capture the speaker sound in the mix. The 200s with its two 15" vintage Altecs is usually loud enough for most of the blues, old school R and B and blues/rock we play in club venues, this with a drummer with control and a sane guitar player using nothing bigger than a Fender Super Reverb.

I'm planning a stereo rig right now, what would compliment the pure grindy goodness of the vintage bassman? I need something fat and warm I think. A v4b? Vintage v4b? I'd go orange but they're way too pricey for me right now, and will be for awhile.
