Double Bass 5ths Tuning Strings

Late reply here, but that's why I'm using light pirastro evahs on my fourths bass even though I have to push it more in an orchestra. Thanks for the advice for when I get a fifths set up going.

Re:wolf tone a mentioned earlier, I found the Marvin wire tailpiece got rid of mine pretty well.

I have 2 basses tuned to 5ths (Shen SB150 and Shen SB200 7/8 Willow). On the 150 I have Red Mitchell Mittel C & G, with a Dominant D and a Passionne Solo A (had a Dominant Solo A and it broke, had trouble finding new Dominant Solo A and got the Passionne instead). I'm buying the mittel Passionne D today but I find the Dominant D and Passionne Solo A sound great together as well.

On my 7/8's Willow I've got the Red Mitchell Weich C and G and Dominant Mittel D and Dominant Solo A. I love both of these combinations and would recommend to anyone. They Pizz well and bow very well.

Ps: Joel Quarrington buys the Dominant Solo A string by the bucket so at least you know that string is good. :)
