6 string bass with narrow string spacing

I have decided that the time has come to add a 6 string to my collection.

I am looking for something with relatively narrow string spacing.

i am going to be looking at Ibanez/Dean/Yamaha priced basses as I don't find that you have to pay as much to get a good quality instrument as you would've in the past.

The most important thing I am looking for is comfort. i don't mind having to replace pickups, bridge etc to make it sound like I want it to.

I am going to begin looking shortly and would like help from other forumites to point me in the direction of good ones and steer me clear of bad ones.

I am open to any suggestions.

Ibanez for sure. The SR506 has a very narrow string spacing that I love.

Yeah the SR506 is VERY narrow. Too narrow for some, but seems liek it might be what you need/want. Check it out, quite affordable too. Especially if you buy used

Yamaha TRB1006 has 17mm spacing. Check out my website for specs, pics, and a sound clip. Great bass for under $1k.

Spector 6 strings and Peavey Cirrus 6 strings are both relatively narrow if memory serves.

Washburn 6-strings have the narrowest spacing I've ever seen. It was very close to guitar spacing

Hehe, hey, you should def. check out the LB76's. Tight string spacing, assymetrical neck, THICK sounding humbucker. I love 'em!

Ibanez are very close...

But, one thing you can look at...

A friend of mine about 12 years ago, had a Ken Smith 5 string made custom into a 6... Put a bridge with sliding string seats (i forget the brand) and an extra tuner, custom nut... that thing was tightness!

Yesterday I played on a Yamaha RBX-JM (the older version), and it had a very narrow string spacing, and was the most comfortable six string i've ever played on. So that one I recommend.

If you are into the Warwick feel, sound, and look, their 6-strings have 16.5mm spacing. There is a neck-thru 6-string for like $1599 used on ebay right now. There is also a Yamaha TRB6 for like $700 on ebay right now.

Based on the general budget range you mentioned, I would say to look for some of the medium to low priced Peavey 6er's. I have a Fury VI that has a nice quilted top that didn't break the bank. You can probably find them for about $300. Peavey makes some great basses for the money.
