Hey All,

After a couple years off, I'm now getting back into the groove, PUN intended!

I ordered a Kiesel Zues 6 string Multi-scale bass with MM pickups. This got me thinking, would a similar bass with a P pickup be a good idea? I have yet to see a multi-scale 6 string P bass!

What say you?

How would you find a split P pickup long enough to fit the width of the strings.
And at an angle?

I have also yet to see a 6 string P bass let alone a multiscale P or better a 6 string multiscale PJ. I know I've never seen one because I don't own one. If I ever see one I'll immediately own it.

Obviously both the split P and added J pickup would either have to be blade type or custom with wider pole spacing. I love my 6 string Fretless SX Jazz (avatar) and I had to mod an old Squier to get a nice 5 string PJ, but a 6 string multiscale PJ would be the Shiznit! Because of the custom pickup thing I'd expect it to cost some serious coin.

I have one of these as my backup, with the P pickup soloed, and switched to passive, it sounds incredible! I'd be curious to try a multi-scale!

So these were the ideas I've been playing around with, and made three kinds of examples (Example #3 is the 6-string P on a JB body). I made this back in October, except now I would change the string spacing to 16.5mm or less (My personal preference). Thoughts?

That looks incredible!
Do you think Keisel will ever make a 6 string JB bass, never mind a multi-scale one...

So...a Dingwall Super P with one more string.

Wilde P46 would work. Cheap and really good too.

They do offer a P pickup on the 6 string Vanquish. I inquired years ago about having their SCP installed on a 4 string multiscale Vanquish build. They did say yes, but with a CNC programmer's fee upcharge and non-returnable. I ended up choosing their radium humbuckers and ended up replacing with EMG soapbars.
