60's Ri Jazz Bass.

Hi,

I currently own a MIM Ri 60's Jazz Bass. Now the thing that is bothering me about it is the fact that the volume off the bass ain't high enough. I'm following lessons at the moment together with a friend of mine. And when were playing at the lesson's the both basses are plugged in one amp. But my friends bass ( MIJ Fender aerodyne jazz) plays much louder i have to crank mine all the way open and still doesn't reach the volume off his one. So now my question is this easy to fix with different pick ups and if so wich one's are recommended for this bass?

Thx!

Start with the basics. Adjust the pickups correctly. Go to Fender's "Mr. Gearhead" or whatever they call it and see what the specs are for how far the PUPs should be from the bottom of the strings and make sure yours are at least that close. Second, go ahead and run both volume controls on the bass wide open. It's a passive bass which means all the controls do is CUT the signal. Run it wide open.

Then if it's still too quiet, have it checked to see if there's a short in any of the wires.

Well i recently brought it to a local dealer and had him do the set up so i guess they know what they're doing. And as far as turning the volume all the way open helps a bit but than i don't like the sound anymore. And my friends bass is also a passive bass and he doesn't have to turn his all the way open and still have lots more volume.
