Hey guys,

Looking for a decent 610 cab but need some info/advice.

I currently use a Ampeg PN410. but doesn't seem to get the low end I want. played through a Ashdown 410 the other night and sounded great.

now that I have a bigger car I was thinking of getting a 610...but which one? Firstly I am in Australia which makes it hard as most stores stock the basic brands. Ashdown, GK, Hartke, Ampeg, Mark Bass, Peavey, very rarely Mesa....etc.

I have tried the Ampeg 610hlf and seems ok but not quite the tone I was after. Anyone know where I can get the technical specs of the Ashdown gear. just says 800w @ 4 ohm. every review is a copy and paste of what's written on their website.

I can get 610's ordered in but hardly anyone stocks them, mainly just 210's and 410's.

any opinions? need a good low end cab that's not too bright. (hard rock/alternative)

running an Ampeg SVT-7 pro as my amp.

I can highly recommend the new Fender neo 610 and the Bergantino NV610, both of which are available in Australia. Excellent cabs, although different. The Berg is more mid focussed and sealed, while the Fender has a fuller range and is ported. The Fender has the added bonus of being incredibly light - I have owned both.

I have its predecessor, the Barefaced '69er and it's fantastic...the newer Retro Six10 is an improved '69er.

Incredible weight difference, the Barefaced is in the range of many 410s. I know which one I would look at.

Weight is not a problem, I deadlift 150kg easy and can usually lift my PN410 one handed. budget is no restrictions

Then why a 610? Does opening up options to 412's, 215's, and 810's make your selection any better?

610 will fit in the car with room for basses and rack unit. 810, 412 is too big and already have a 410

A 215 is of similar size to a 610, smaller even in some cases. Might give you some more options to look at.

Which cabs do you have direct access to? Are you looking to buy local?

would like to try before buying. have to ring local stores in Melbourne tomorrow to see what stock they have in. had 15's in the past and don't like them. always liked 10's

I know one local has a Ashdown ABM 610 and a GK 610

The Ashdown is great and possibly their best 10" cabinet. It is more SVT-like than the ABM 410.I have 2 ABM 610s and they are a little heavy (115lbs) to carry up the stairs without help. The side handles are good.

Not ever cab with the same driver alignment sounds the same. If they did, you could pick up any 610, as they would all sound the same.

I know one local has a Ashdown ABM 610 and a GK 610

GK doesnt make a 610, so be aware of what someone is trying to sell you.

Barefaced 6-10, 65lbs, super sensitive..

I can vouch that the NV610 is a great cab if you want the narrow frequency response of a sealed, tweeterless 610 (though Jim is now making ones with tweeters). I've heard great things about the Fender Neo, and from what I understand it's a true 4-ohm cabinet (most 6x10s are actually around 5.3 ohms).

I love my two Fender Neo 410s that weigh around 53 lbs each.

I'll add another vote to the Ashdown ABM610. Great cab. The Mesa Boogie Standard Powerhouse is pretty good too. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having both of them in my arsenal with respective heads.
