Consider a 4x10 plus a 2x10! I wanted a 6x10 as well, but it dawned on me how much better two cabs would be. I went with Gallien Krueger Neo cabs, which are just the right size and they weigh nothing. They sound spectacular, but the best thing is that when I don't need all 6 10's I can use either or. The 2x10 for small gigs, the 4x10 for larger gigs, and 6x10 to blow people's minds. Two cabs are easier to load in the car as well.

As noted previously in the thread: for the "modular 6x10" to work, the 4x10 should be 4 ohms, and the 2x10 should be 8 ohms -- that way power distributes evenly to each speaker. And the bass head/power amp must be able to handle the resulting 2.67 ohm load.

Assuming they were both 8ohm, the amp would send the same power to the 210 as the 410. Your volume would then be limited by the power limit of the 210. A single 610 would evenly distribute power to all speakers.

From a power distribution standpoint, having an 8-ohm 410 and a 4-ohm 210 also works, provided that you rewire the latter internally in series, either permanently (not the smartest move) or switchably, to make it 16 ohms: the total impedance would be 5.33 (safe for a 4-ohm-minimum solid state head) and each driver would get the same power. No guarantee it's gonna sound good (unless you have the exact drivers in both cabs tuned to the same freq and with the same inside volume per driver).*
Both this and the other modular 610 option suggested above (4-ohm 410, 8-ohm 210, 2.66 ohm total) result in odd total impedances that are not recommended for all-tube amps: here my poor excuse for a knowledge is below parroting plausibility though.


*(To be exhaustive, alternatively to rewiring the 4-ohm 210 you could connect the two cabs and the amp with a Y series cable: in that case total impedance would actually increase to 12 ohms and power draw decrease, so output should actually be less than what you'd get from the 410 alone, but the sound would be a little fuller. I think. Hardly worth it at least on paper.)

Went looking around the other day at a few music shops. tried the following..

Fender 610 neo
Ampeg 610hlf
Ashdown 410 (no 610 in stock, arrives when ordered in 3 days)
Eden 610XST

I used a similar ampeg amp too what I had on the same settings. Ampeg and Ashdown both sounded pretty good. Fender and Eden seemed too bright. Pity they didn't have a 610 Ashdown. Ampeg 610 was $1100 second hand ($2300 brand new), look fantastic condition though. I read the Ampeg's were more mid range and bright. but this growled in the low end that rattled anything in the store that wasn't bolted down. (love that they encourage you too turn up really loud to test them).

For all who are talking about the Berg NV610, found one dealer in Australia. rang them and they have 3 on back order already sold and they aren't supposed to come in till August and they still haven't been given a date on their next shipment for the remainder of the year. could be a 6 month wait being generous.

The salesperson was trying to push me towards the Ampeg (more $$$)as he said...1200W and svt7 is 1000w...no chance of wrecking the cab. but even with a cab at 900w @ 4 ohm...I can't see me having to play at full capacity with it.

would of liked to find a Mesa PH610 to play with.

the search continues.

Excellent 15 are around. Full-range & LF. There's no better bang-for-the-buck, pound for pound (or kilo for kilo, I suppose :laugh: ) than 15s, imho. They. Rule. The. Roost.

Yeah prices in Australia are screwed up. an Ampeg SVT610hlf is $2149AU, Ashdown ABM $1149AU, Mesa PH610 $2439AU

SVT 7Pro is 600w@8ohms, 1000w@4 ohms
most (if not all) of these multi driver cabs are 4ohms

another vote for the Bergantino NV610 if you can find one.
also, the Fender 610 is a nice cab for the $$, and Fender being a global brand may be reasonably easy to find in AUS

Really? I had an Ashdown ABM 810 for about a week and sent it back to MF. I thought it was pretty awful and decided the Blueline speakers just didn't have the cajones to do a decent job. Sunn Model T Gen II powering it. Maybe I was under-powering it with 200 watts of tubes... Maybe I got a dud.

IME, It didn't hold a candle to the GK 412 Neo I immediately replaced it with.
