63 Fender Jazz. Need Advice

That's the thing, I've satisfactorily restored the included pickguard. In fact! Pictures in the next post. I know you've all been waiting.

I ordered a tusq nut, but they sent the wrong one. They were quick to fix the issue (some of the best customer service I've seen yet) and a new one is on the way, but unfortunately it'll be sometime NEXT WEEK before I get to put strings on this bad boy. Outside of the nut, I'm only waiting on the tapewound strings. Then everything will be good to go.

Let me get the pics up on photobucket.

Congratulations on a great bass. You should consider sealing the wood until you can afford to have a period correct finish applied. My guess is that after a few days playing this bass, you will be cured of Alembic fever. :bassist:

Bass complete. I will most likely take some pictures tonight. Those tapewound play like a dream.

The action isn't great. I like my action low, and this one sits at a solid medium. The truss rod works fine, but taking the action any lower causes some terrible buzz. It's fine. Not great, but it plays fine. I bet it would be a monster if the neck weren't gouged like it is.

Anyways, pictures to come. It looks pretty badass with the black strings.

I hope so, sometimes I fear I'm an empty vessel. Learn one day, forget the next.

In all seriousness, though. It's been a great deal of fun. I am near flopping around on the ground in excitement over the alembic. Not to say this fender is anything to scoff at. I've been playing on 'er all night, and she really is a dream. I hope he likes it as much as I expect to like the alembic.

Thanks again for everyone's advice and expertise. You've been a tremendous help in my spending $700 on a $1300 bass.
