6'5 musician, being awkward

Wear a top hat and high heeled boots. You got it, flaunt it.

For halloween, get some neck bolts.

Learn to sing "Puttin on the Ritz" and avoid open flames...

Belt buckle that says "hey, my eyes are up there ^"

Maybe go crabcore so your legs go out instead of up.

Love Pino.

You know where I hate looking at myself playing bass, is if I'm playing a line where I have to look at the fretboard. At that point I look like a Giraffe at a watering hole. I'm working on playing without looking at the fretboard and just an overall sense of knowing where to play without looking at it. I'm pretty good in practice. Haven't had much experience gigging with that mindset though.

sounds like you have issues about your appearance and your height overall - chances are good that no one else notices. my husband is 6' 7", and no one in the audience or other musicians ever thought he looked awkward - only he did. and he was playing on the same stage sometimes as 5' 3" me. my buddy mark also thought he was too tall at 6' 2", and he stopped playing the guitar for a decade and only played bass because he thought he was too tall to play guitar. when he started playing guitar again, i used to go see his band, and he didn't look particularly tall nor did he make the guitars look particularly small.

also most stages are raised, which confuses the issue of height some.

I'm six 2"-250 & I'm 6'4-6'5 with boots on, my brother is 6'7"- 400lb. I'll give the same advice to you as I'd give to him. Head out of ass- we are big guys- get over it. maybe eat a damn salad- some low carb beer, shutup- stop over thinking, and play because no one cares. Yep!

As another 6'5 bassist I can only repeat what everyone else is saying. Just own it. If you feel like you need to work on your stage presence maybe practice in the mirror so you can get used to not looking at the fingerboard and you can watch what your body is doing. I did that a couple times and I noticed some weird things I used to do.
