6X12 build?

Hey TB,

I built a 2x15 Sunn clone cab a couple years ago, it turned out very well, but I'm feeling the urge to build something new. Not to replace the 2x15, just something different... you know... I have builder GAS, I suppose.

I was thinking a ported 6x12

6x12 cabs are a rare-ish bird, but a few companies have made them Sunn, Peavey, um, some others?

Does anyone have any experience with a 6x12? Good, bad, mud? Are they rare because they suck? Super great? Meh?

Also, what 12s for bass do you recommend? I'm thinking neo to bring the weight down.

I was thinking of suggesting two 4x12's. That makes me wonder if two 4x10's are equal to one 8x10 in terms of how the cab volume impacts resonance and frequency response, etc. If they are different somehow, a good invention might be a coupler that allows you to screw two 4x10's (or 4x12's) together so that they can breathe together and maybe share a single port?

Since you have the itch to slice some plywood and melt some faces, I'm going to suggest a fEarful or two.

A pair of 15/6's can blur your vision with low end power.

Fun projects that exceed expectations.

That one is total fail though. Speakers too spread and pointing at the floor defeats all the point.

haha yeah like I said, owned briefly. Sounded pretty bad. I wonder if Fender R&D just thought it looked cool, and said screw it lets see if it sells.

Sealed would save tuning/design time, but I've really been into the open sound of a slot port lately.

The idea of sealed with dividers like an SVT isn't a bad one though...

No, all 6 speakers on one baffle. You could port each pair front or rear if you like.
