... wanting to check out an inexpensive 7 string, i picked up a serviceable ebay piece this summer. Korean origin, good quality, 35", good woods, straight flat neck, decent 'tronics.
But since i prefer a wiiide spacing, i wasn't too happy with the banjo-esque spacing on this otherwise great-for-the-price $400 monster, and i knew i'd never give it much love because of that....
so, as an experiment, it now sports a Hipshot A series 20mm bridge (19.98mm, to be exact), with 6 strings (.28 - .120) across its new 2 1/4 nut. ( i'll cover the empty string-hole with a small brass plate, front & back).
It's now amazing- an excellent in-rotation substitute-beast for both my Fodera and Coppolo gems. It's also an inexpensive workaround idea for anyone hankerin' for a wide custom 6 setup on a solid working instrument.
All luthierie was done by the great Jeremy at Rudy's, NYC- among the best repair guys in town, and Will Lee's tech for the Fab Faux.
