70's Fender 400 PS bass amp?

I was thinking of gettting the bassman 135, but you guys are all saying it might not be loud enough for live shows.....
And I can't locate or even get a comment really about the Fender Studio Bass amp, hunt hint...
On ampwares.com I stumbled onto the Fender 400 ps bass, it has 435 watts!!!!!!

I guess you need 3 speaker cabs and it puts 145 watts to each output, or you can plug it into this big funky cab it came with......

Are these hard to come by as well? And how do they sound????


I can't even find a review on harmony-cental.com user reviews on this one.......

I think people who dis the big 400ps are people who missed the boat on the 400PS are just mad because they missed the boat. I bought mine in a pawn shop 20 yrs. ago for $200.00, put new tubes in it, put it on my favorite rolling speaker cabinet and made other accommodations for the weight (84 lbs), like I can "walk" it into my car from the cabinet ( I am a 67yr old woman). I've never used more than one speaker outlet. It sounds wonderful when it's turned very low or very high. I joined this website because I needed to sell it to raise money to fix my car, but now I'm having second thoughts about selling it. Seems a dumb thing to do when it has provided such wonderful sound and service for so many years. And maybe you should be careful about who works on it, except here's the thing......mine has never needed any work. So as I starting taking pics, fav being the one of the back with all the tubes aglow, I think I'll hunt for another way to finance my car repairs.

Nice. I use mine with 2 2x12s and a 2X10. Had it gone through when I bought it 12 years ago, hasn't needed service since. I wouldn't exactly call that a pain to maintain and use but it's subjective I suppose.

Sounds like a nice setup, my friend! I used to take my 135 Bassman 4x12 cab with the 400PS to gigs. Though I did swap out the original Fender speakers (which were pretty tired) and put in two paired Eminence Basslites, so I could use the two pairs with two of the outs on the PS. That was good...but then I bought two 400w 15's and built cabs for those. Which are now en route to the UK ahead of me. Hence the temporary purchase of the Acoustic box.

The Acoustic 402 is one great cabinet. It looks like the one you is loaded with the original drivers too.

And you sir, I am reasonably certain that, going by your profile pic you know what you're talking about! The 402 box is an incredible sounding unit. I had no idea. I bought it coz it was cheap LOL.

Good luck with the car. I don't think I'm violating TB rules to suggest that sadly a 400PS isn't likely to sell for enough money to pay for any significant repairs, though every bit helps. They are not sought after, the general public is unaware of their existence and many who have heard of them are prejudiced against them based on the uninformed words of Internet strangers.

Really. They'd rather form an opinion NOT bassed (pun intended) on info from someone who used one happily for 20 yrs with no repair needed! Thanks very much for your input!
