Nope, they stopped producing it many years back. You can find them used anywhere from $100 to $200.

But I'd think you could assign CUTOFF FREQUENCY to a CC pedal to sweep with it, though I'd expect it to be a stepped sweep based on how it functions when sweeping the front panel control knob.

Yeah, it's a stepped sweep. It's one of the few things on the VF-1 that I really dislike- it makes a lot of the functions like whammy-type pitch shifting less usable. It sounds fine if you do a fast sweep, but anything other than fast and you notice the steps.

also, not mentioned too often.. there is a ringmod in the modfactor that can get some crushed type sounds.

Do you have the Modfactor? I'm considering ditching all my modulation and getting one. I haven't been finding much use for my phaser with the last few incarnations of my synth setup. I love low-depth tremolo for deep sub bass sounds, square wave trem for more aggressive pseudo arpeggiated ones, and static chorus for fuzzy ones. I definitely think I'd be able to make use of expression controlled vibrato and while I've had a lot of success with ring-modulators on keyboards (my main axe), I have yet to try one on bass.

The internal gate knob is essential for getting the right sound out of it.

Totally agree with you there. I'm going to try to sweet spot it later this evening but man it sounds amazing with the Moog MF-101. I got so used to MXR BOD -> MF-101 but now I can switch it up and have a completely different flavor of resonant dubbed out madness! I completely love it.

For once, my girlfriend actually seemed just as excited about a new pedal as I was once I started messing around with it. She puts up with my endless tweaking and comes to all of my band's shows but actually made me show her everything it could do and explain how the frequency dependent tremolo thing works with the suboctaves below audible range.

Ok, It's a lot but here's what I use for that 8Bit sound and it's completely analog..

Bass Micro Synth with the Octave Up at maximum and a little bit of dry signal into a Wah pedal, then into EHX Tube Zipper. This creats a terribly high pitched signal which then gets destroyed by 2 octaves down with my DOD Buzz Box (a MXR Blue Box would be ok too) and at last into the Way Huge Swollen Pickle.
Then I use the WahWah to control the amount of high frequency to hit the Buzz Box.
In between I sometimes switch on a Moog Murf Sequence...awesome...

yeah I have one. Pretty did exactly that. Sold all my modulation and got this. Works great on bass. A few others have one on here as well. You can get some GREAT flangers and phasers out of it. Which is really good for me. I was tired of trying different pedals just to get a effect I liked.
