8" Drivers

How can you be sure they will be close? This is an absurd statement if they are not using factory parts. Without using factory parts, they will be 8" speaker like objects, NOT Beta 8's.

How close is close? 50% deviation? 75% deviation?

You are completely missing the entire point of just about all of the informational comments I (and others) are making.

Sticking random look-alike parts into a driver results in random performance. Completely random.
 
I made a cute and thumpy 2x8 with the last pair of 4 ohm beta 8's u.s. speaker had in stock. it would hang with a respectable drummer and considerate guitarist in a 3 pc.

I've had my shuttle 3.0 run into one of those drivers in that cab, and if I had a way to push both drivers with a bass amp, it would be a sweet little grab-and-go. no hate for the eight from me.
just wire a switch or a second switching jack to put the drivers in series, and you've got an 8Ω 2x8 box your shuttle will be perfectly happy pushing.

I've been given strict "hands off" orders... I tried to steal the drivers once before for a better design... I have other (and honestly) better performing cabs that are smaller and lighter than this one, but there's something about those betas that makes me want to push them.
 
The sensitivity was 95, I don't remember what the spl on the bag end, eminence or celestion drivers the bbm used stock, couldn't find published numbers quickly. The last stock drivers used in them were eminence, an oem model with similar spec to beta.

A really good 8" that I found is the "long throw" 8 available from LDS speaker for about $85, lots of people have swap ed aging speakers from a bb2 or bbm for those. They have been described as "pants flappers" but I don't like the idea of relying on such a small company for them tho. They have been in business for a while, but a warrantee is a good thing.

6 of the long-throws in a ported cab balanced by (2) 8" mid-range drivers and HF in an isolated box topside. Great box but heavier than hell.

that your box?

i remember ampeg doing something like this back in the '90s maybe? a 4x8 cab or maybe even combo with the 8s having foam surrounds like car speakers. i remember them being not much smaller or lighter than the 4x10, but not being as loud and blowing a lot.

Yes, that was mine. I do remember a cab (Ampeg?) along the lines of your description.

I have the Oberton running in a horn-reflex cab, nasty little driver, it can compete with most 10's out there. Large excursions don't bother this driver much, it'll eat the magnats for breakfast.

But where can he get 9 of those that need to be re-coned, and do they have cardboard and tape kits so that they can be "fixed", all for $27.38 or via trade on his local Craigslist for other broken gear?

DC transmission lines are the thing to use these days for under sea transmission lines. The capacitive losses can get pretty awful when the cable's sheath is surrounded by a relatively high quality conductor.

Not sure what you mean by resistance doubling. A T line's R is its R regardless of frequency, unless f gets high enough that the skin effect starts to matter.

I assume that he meant that the resistance is doubled because the current must have a return path.
