8 String Bass In Progress

"Got a question, if you don't mind. What's your impression of the Indi bridges? I'm looking for a replacement of my (cheap-ass) 6 string bridge, and those Indis look like quite a steal, compared to for instance hipshot's monorails."

They are junk pot metal. :scowl: I have built 2 customer ordered basses with them and hate using them. Be careful screwing them into the body the screws can easily go right through the "metal" into the body.....t

I've worked with them before... I may beef them up a bit in that respect... I have a full metal working shop that I can use at school.

The bridges are fine as long as you do like you said. If the bass turns out real well I may just replace them with some better ones.... or build a wooden bridge.

First of all, it's comming out amazingly nice! It looks thick, is it hollow?

I had the same problem a couple of months ago, I used a very sharp scraper to shave the graphite down to the neck, worked out nicely, though that dust will get under your nails and refuse to come out!

Thanks for the compliment!

The body is 3" thick and is hollow. I'll try out the scraper idea... that's sort of what I was thinking of doing.

here's the body out of clamps. Next I need to attach the fingerboard (now that the graphite is epoxied in), shape the neck, do a little fancying-up to the headstock and them mount the neck.

A clean shop is a sign of too much time and not enough bass building.

Besides, the big piles of sawdust act as a cushion when you trip over the various tools lying on the floor.

Fortunately it isn't my shop, its the other guy I'm building with that lurks around here and goes by nateo. Nice guy!

You're just sucking up so you don't have to find a new workspace.

It's coming along very nicely, but where did you forget your suit and sunglasses, agent Smith?
