800rb fried....now what? 3 weeks until tour!

I wonder how you blew up an 800RB. Most incedents I have heard of those blowing up involved running a 4 ohm load on the high amp, which only was designed to tolerate 8 ohm loads.
I ran one of those for a few years and it got plenty loud (and plenty hot) with no problems. I ionly ditched mine because I "upgraded" to a pr and power amp setup with all the silly rack candy.

Seriously, I would get that amp fixed for tour. Otherwise you may end up spending a lot of coin for an amp then spend half the tour trying to get it to sound right.

I'm not sure either?

I know it was hooked up right, but the guy in the first band used it.....he really wailed on it.....which made me instantly nervous.......he was way too loud for their entire set.
I should have said something....but it's strange to bug someone while they're on stage.

I backed down the volume, and got through about 4 of 8 songs when it started to lose volume power. At first, I just thought the guitar player was louder than usual.....but it got quiet and weak.....then died completely. So I'm not sure if it's just the burnt components......or more? :(

I have 3 weeks starting last Friday to figure something out!:hmm:

just turning it up really loud shouldn't have burned it out. gk's are pretty robust. i tend to think it was coincidence. i could be wrong, but maybe it was just your amp's turn in the barrel.

If I was uncomfortable with how someone was using my equipment I would have no problem walking right up on stage and turning it down. Out of deference I might wait until the song ends.
Conversely if I am using someone elses gear and they look at me crazy for how loud (or distorted) it sounds I will gladly dial back or let them do it. Heck, when I play on borrowed gear I just try and make do with their settings. If I was you I would go after the fella that used/abused your amp. But hey, if you want to let it slide I admire your buddhist ability to stop the cycle of conflict and suffering.

Good point...I could have been discrete but yet not have have my gear thrashed.

If the amp had died during his set....I might have reacted differently....

I was irate on stage when it died....but that faded....

I like the 800RB because it's got strong mid range punch.
Ampegs to me sound scooped......:confused:

Honestly I would dive into tubes headfirst if I was you. I have actually found they aren't unreliable. I dont know how thye get that rep? If you take user error out of the equation I have had ZERO problems with my tube amps. When they have blow up or broken it was due to fun stuff liek falling off a speaker onto it's face (thanks drummer!). Being plugged into too low of impedance (pre internet days when nobody knew what a "Traynor" was. Or turning the amp on with NO load.

I've had some tubes amps before......SUNN 2000S, Orange OR120, Vintage V4...
I've got some now.....Ampeg V4BH, Traynor YBA-1, Traynor YGL-3A Mk III, and a handful of guitar tube amps.

I had always preferred the tone of the 800RB in the band......that said, I've never tried a 300w tube bass amp.....:o

The 100w tube amps I've tried have always sounded good......I really dig the YGL......huge fat low end.....but distinct enough to maintain mid-range clarity.
Sadly, it's just not loud enough.....loud, but not enough.

I would love to try a couple tube amps and pick the best......but this time I have to choose and live with it....since I'm on a time crunch.
