810 cabinet on its side. Any reason?

You'd think that side-by-side would be more stable than stand alone.
Side-by-side would result in each cab only having a 26"x16" base, whereas stacked on their sides results in a 48"x16" base and an extra 2" of height. To put it another way, stacking them side-by-side results in each cab resting on 416 square inches, whereas on their sides has each cab resting on 768 square inches. If toppling is a concern it makes more sense to place them on their sides.

I could understand a bit of the sonic differences but if there's concern with tipping over a single SVT I would say it's not safe and should be avoided.

As I said, it's a rare concern, but I've been on large festival stages where the amount of plywood flex seen at the provided backline was troubling. Sonically there will be no difference between two 810s placed vertically side-by-side versus two stacked on top of each other horizontally. The added 2" of height found in the latter might make a tiny difference but I doubt it would be perceptible to the player.

Several reasons. One, more stage coupling, two, the speakers being off axis will sound deeper to the bassist, and three, you don't have 2 of those 10" speakers pretty close to ear level making it hard to hear the other members in the band just to mention a few.

Actually, I don't see much need for an 810 cab unless your stage volume is really loud, which is fine if you play Yankee stadium or for outdoors gigs and you need the stage presence, or to avoid dealing with a 100lbs 410 cab. Other than that, It's usually better to let the PA do the heavy lifting so to speak. JMO

They’re exactly what the doctor ordered if your PA is lacking bass support. I absolutely needed one to be heard in my old band, until we graduated to something approaching a real PA.

My gosh, what I used back in 70's. 100 Hiwatt with 412 cab and SVT powering a V4-B 2-15 reflex cab... Today i have it paired down to 2-210 cabs and about a max of 600 watts but barely cracked open...LOL!!!

Good post friend.

Same here! I sold all that big iron last year to some kid who was very happy to carry it away in a uhaul van. Nowadays I run a 212 combo as monitor and the rest of the band is ampless. PA handles EVERYTHING!

It was fun having the big bad fridge at my back but I’m just not doing it anymore.

I hear you. Most of the time these days I just use a 210 320 watt combo. As for hauling, it's no big deal like hauling a 75lbs SVT head, followed a cab that weighs more. LOL!!!

Now outdoors, I want to move some air, and I have one of those gig coming up the end of August in a big park in a band shell. Just for fun and reminice I'm going to open it up...followed by BenGay and several trips to the chiorpractor....
