Heavy metal, low frequencies are heavy. They're closer to the ground. Gravity.
But how about 10' in front but off to the side. Isn't it true that the horizontal dispersion would be better (all other things equal) with the cab vertical? (If not, please correct me!)In the bigger picture, it may make less difference than some here suggest. Especially when standing 10’ in front.
Maybe, maybe not. In reality, it may not matter much. But how about 10' in front but off to the side. Isn't it true that the horizontal dispersion would be better (all other things equal) with the cab vertical? (If not, please correct me!)
Sometimes musicians don't ask for arm chair engineers' suggestionObviously that’s what the stage manager wants. Can’t believe it is the bass player’s choice. But then again, who knows?
Bingo.Dave from the war on drugs is doing this. He said in their rig rundown it was for lighting purposes.

I don't think this is true much of the time. Often, what's good for the show is also good for the player and what's good for the player is good for the show.Bingo.
It’s never about the player.
I’ve been asked to do stuff like this for the lighting/staging too.
Of course, with the two 810s side-by-side this could never happen. So that you can stack another 8x10 on top of it and UNLEASH 16 SPEAKERS WORTH OF FURY!!!!!!!!
Or, anyone else, for that matter. As I said, it's a rare concern, but I've been on large festival stages where the amount of plywood flex seen at the provided backline was troubling. Sonically there will be no difference between two 810s placed vertically side-by-side versus two stacked on top of each other horizontally. The added 2" of height found in the latter might make a tiny difference but I doubt it would be perceptible to the player.
Best reason! On its side ..... it also leaves less space for guitar amps, so….you can hear yourself.

I see on some stages guys using an 810 cabinet on its side.
What’s the advantage or disadvantage of placing the cab like this?
