'95 Ibanez SR300 pickup question

My brother has a SR300 which he feels the jazz style bridge pickup is weak. Both pickups are DX humbucker types, P and J with 500k pots. I've looked around for thread that discuss this issue and was not successful. Should he raise the the pickup for more volume? Use lighter strings for a brighter tone? Change the humbucker P/J to single coil P/J configuration? It has a 473 cap between the bridge and tone pots. Any suggestions?? Thank you in advance!!

Basically, the least thing I can do is upgrade the pots to CTS. I think it sounds fine as it and for what it is.. its a nice bass. But, I wonder if I should turn the pots to concentric type for vol/tone for each pickup and turn the tone to blend pot. Would you choose 250k linear or audio? Pickups are humbuckers. Anyone point to a thread that discussed this? I am the older brother so I guess I could turn this into something he will never recognize. Wouldn't that be fun!! Thank you.
