98 Ford Explorer 4.0 issue-gonna roll it into a gulley!

Good time to find an old Blazer, or even batter, a Jeep Cherokee, and pick it up for a song. The Cherokees are the best medium-size SUVs of that generation of vehicle. My oldest daughter has a '99 with paint leprosy; it's ugly, but it runs like a watch (and it has had a wrecking yard engine for the past three years. )

I'll second the Jeep.

I wouldn't give you a dime for an S series Blazer. I'm a GM guy through and through and I'd buy a F**d before I bought one of those heaps. The only good thing about the S Blazers is I make money off of them because they're such piles of crap.

The guy that I carpool with has the new F-150 with the EcoBoost (he is also a Ford mechanic). That thing is a dream to drive. If I had the money, and needed a truck, there would be one sitting out in front of my place. From what he says, they are the best engine design that Ford has had in 20+ years.

And I will third the Cherokee. My first Jeep, and even though I have a TJ now I miss the Kee sometimes and wish that Jeep would bring on something that seriously does the Cherokee justice; an affordable family SUV that had serious off-road prowess, good highway manners, and a stickshift :D :D

But ya, you can pick them up for nothing. I got my 91 Cherokee with 92k miles in 2007 for $1200. Not the super-nicest ride but it was an absolute hoot to drive both off road and on, had room for 3 other adults and all the gear we needed for a weekend of fun.

I got my 95 Cherokee for free. Fixed a few things, drove it for three years and sold it with 242k on the clock.

Paid $200 for my 93 Grand Cherokee 3 years ago. 200k and going strong, although it's cosmetically challenged.
