A 4x10 and a 2x10. Is this good?

Not quite,

You want the 410 as a 4 Ohm and the 210 as an 8 Ohm, or really the 210 just double the impedance of the 410. That way 2/3 of the power will go to the 410 and 1/3 will go to the 210.

The way you have it laid out, 2/3 of the power will go to the 210, and 1/3 to the 410 making the power distribution even worse than if both cabs were 8 Ohms.

Soo....I run the head into the 2x10, then from the 2x10 into the 4x10. Is that right?
 
My Acoustic 4x10, and the Peavey 2x10 are both 8 ohm cabinets. Does that shed any light on it?

This will present a nice, 4-ohm load to your amp, so you are good there. As has been pointed out above, though, is that the 2x10 will be seeing the same amount of power as the 4x10, so the power handling capabilities of the 2x10 become your limiting factor. That being said, if you are careful not to push the 2x10 too hard, this combination should work. And yes, you can run a cable from the head to the 2x10 and then from the 2x10 to the 4x10. Alternately, you can also run a cable from the amp to the 4x10 and then another cable from the 4x10 to the 2x10. You could even run one cable from the amp to one cab, and a second cable from the amp to the other cab (presuming that you have two speaker outs). All of these end up yielding the same results (presuming that you are using standard speaker cables).

Yes, but most 1x15's can handle a similar amount of power, relative to most 2x10's.

Not exactly..........

When mixing different speaker sizes you also need to consider displacement.

A 1X15 and a 2X10 are very close in displacement, so as long as their sensitivity is also close, they can work well together (putting aside phasing issues).

A 1X15 combined with a 4X10 is where the power imbalance comes back into play, and why that "classic combination" is a very poor choice.

glad i caught this converstaion,...my situation is similar,...ive got a genz benz shuttle 9.2 amp (900 watt at 4 ohms) the cab is a tc 4x10 (500 watt) but i need a bit more than the 4x10 can give me,....so, how if i get a 2x12 tc cab add on (8ohms) will that be safe to use ? im struggling to find a 2x12 4 ohms cab which surely is a ideal match ?

Run two 8 ohm cabs to get the 4 ohm max output of the Genz
 
To the OP—If later on you find a deal on a 4 ohm Peavy 410 cabinet with the same drivers as the 8 ohm Peavy 210 you are presently using, you will be able to create a very nice, if heavy, 610 pairing, assuming your amp can handle a 2.67 ohm load.

I do this with a couple of Epifani cabinets for outdoors gigs and very large venues with unknown PA capabilities.
 
Note that running two different cabs with different model drivers and tunings is just as likely to give phase response problems as mixing driver sizes. Funny that no one picks on that when the driver diameters are the same.

This point isnt lost on me. At this point the power handling discrepancy is the bigger problem. The OP is clearly trying to make what he has work, regardless of the engineering faults. And that is ok.

Now if he was posting a thread about "what cab to buy to pair with an existing cab?" kind of thread, then yeah I would be all over the, "matched cabs only..."

If you like the sound you have, it just isn't loud enough, another of the exact same cabinet will be an ideal match. If you don't like the sound of your current cabinet, it's kind of a crapshoot whether adding a different cab will improve the sound or make it way worse. Instead, just find a cab you like the sound of, and get two of them. That's the most reliable route.
