I would not say they are ugly, but I do find them somewhat passe...

Fender has had the same designs and the same colors, and the same headstocks for decades. Every bass player has either had a fender or a fender copy. They are belly buttons.

I am not a big fan of the lion head on this bass, but at least it is something different. Unlike a fender, you will not see something like this on every stage

I remember being intrigued by it and listening to the soundclips on their website. Their current website looks different than I remember and no clips to be found anymore. Oh well.

Decadance?
That's it, my next bass guitar build is gonna have 8 pickups, 18 knobs and switches, 3 preamps, a liquor dispenser behind the bridge, a garage door opener and a tv remote in the upper horn since I only play at home by myself... and maybe a pez dispenser built in to the head. Maybe I should build a tube amp with an integrated panini press too just to make sure I got everything covered.

Alembics or clones thereof aren't my taste, though I can still appreciate them (doorknockers aside)...

What I can't get over is BurningSkies putting Ritter on speed dial in the same sentance as getting Dingwall to bring forth Prima Artists.

Ritters - BLECH! Vomit – "to flow forth".

Dingwalls - :hyper::bassist::cool:

@ BurningSkies: I enjoy your posts and opinions, so this... Ritter skeleton in the closet... just caught me by surprise. :confused: :eek: No matter. I'll still respect your opinion in the morning.;)

If I could justify spending that much money on a bass I wouldn't play, I would have it on my wall.
I appreciate different and unique things, from an artistic standpoint
This is the same way I feel when I go to a lot of car or motorcycle shows. I can look at the eye candy, and appreciate the work that has went into the show pieces. That does not necessarily mean I want each vehicle there, it just means that I appreciate the artistic vision, and the work involved

I think Jens makes some stunning and unique instruments, they're not for everyone, but I think he's got a very practiced artistic eye and some very interesting design ideas. He also is one who pays attention to detail and isn't afraid to use materials that are extraordinary.

Now, if he only did fanned fret instruments...If I were a king, I bet I could convince him with either cash or time in my torture dungeon.

"Dungeon". Made me laugh again! Mr Ritter does indeed have an artistic touch and the balls to carry through with his visions, and that I respect immensely. Phil Lesh's "Eye of Horus" and the "Mythos" have ... protruberances that upset the flow of the normal Ritter aesthetics, IMO.

Truth is, I have nothing against Ritters, but my hard-earned money would go towards a Dingwall and while I'd be nervous about getting it dinged up gigging, a gigging it would go. A Ritter would be an at home only instrument for fear of messing it up or having it stolen.

If somebody were to hand me a Ritter, I'd take the Royal Collector 0916 (w/ purple accents instead of blue) or, like the Simpsons model, a Ren & Stimpy Ritter would be über cool.

FWIW, Stanley Clarke doesn't own the Loewenherz company but he does own one or more of their basses. I interpret Jauqo III-X statement to mean he played a Loewenherz that Stanley owns OR he played a Spellbinder. Stanley did (does?) own part of that company.

Stanley did assist Loewenherz a lot in the development of the bass, which could account for its Alembic tendencies, but I think it sort of rested there.

Guess I'm getting too old for this. To me it looks like its fit for a King.........or a pimp.
Guaranteed, much effort and thought has gone into the piece and you can see the quality of construction in the pics. We're showmen but there are still some outfits even I won't wear. :-)
