No I played Stanley's Loewenherz bass.

Again when I played the Loewenherz it was not plugged into an amp.

OR he played a Spellbinder. Stanley did (does?) own part of that company.

But years ago I did play one of his personal Spellbinder basses as well.

Or do you mean the development of his own personal one(specifying what he likes in a bass)?

The ones I tried sounded good by the way.
(did not try the SC bass however)

... there are certainly some great playing / sounding "simple" and / or "cheap" basses ... there are also some great playing (and sounding) "fancy" and "simple" " 'spensive" basses ...

I don't recall all the details, but I could probably find some if it's really important. Some members made a big stink about it a while ago over on the Alembic Club. Someone included a link that detailed how he had done some consultation with them on their product in general, not just his personal bass(es).

One thing I find quite impressive is how they got so many pickups on one bass to actually work out and sound ok.
I've not seen that anywhere else.

I actually kind of like the bass. It looks best in black, even with the Lions Head thingy. Ostentatious, probably, but if the person who owns it likes it, who cares right lol. If someone gave me one (I'd never spend that much on a bass, unless I was...well....a king) I'd most definitely play it.
