Actually the Spirit is a fine playing and good sounding bass. Not for everyone but I sure like mine. As for the Danno, love the look and definitely on the hunt for one. At the right price of course. Different strokes...

I guess I wouldn't play anything that's not a five-string... I'm just too used to it and I use the B string quite extensively.

This is a wonderful thing because there are sooooo many cool and older basses that don't come in fivers. I don't know how you guys handle the GAS.

Oddly, I kinda like that...if just for the weight savings I had a bass player in an old band in the late 80's that played a Cort knockoff, hot pink(it WAS the 80's...). Sounded pretty good.

Definitely:
any Hofner - they just feel like toys in my hands
any thing with more than 5 strings...and rarely 5 strings
anything where I would need an electrical engineering degree to figure out the knobs and switches
basses with no headstocks....just don't like the weight distribution

I have tried many basses in my 30+ years of playing so I feel like these answers are not "reactionary"...they have come from comparison and shopping many different brands and types.

Feel is the most important aspect of a bass for me. I feel like it is the only thing I can not change without major time and money consumption

Sadly, in this quest I found out that I also could never play a Ric 4001. 03 etc, which many of my heroes play. I could not get it to feel right at all. It literally crushed me.

Anything above four strings. I just don't have any desire to extend my range upward, and if I want deeper notes I'll just tune down to B.

No such thing as a bass I would not consider because of brand or traditional body style. Unless it is shaped like a penis or a butt I will give it a play and/or a listen.

I'm glad you came to youe senses and ditched that penis-shaped bass, it really was a bit much, sentimental value be damned.

Anything over 4 strings, over 10 pounds (with a few exceptions),umm... Uncomfortably shaped, mellows in the mix too much rather than stand out at least a decent bit. I guess.

I would say any bass that is too pointy, such as BC Rich. I'm also not a fan of long skinny horns like the Danolectro Long Horn. I actually hated the look of the Carvin Bunny Brunel bass until I found a great deal on a used one and fell in love with it!

I'm pretty tall and lanky so shortscale basses look like guitars on me. Plus they're just not suited for what I play.

Never liked Hofners. The feel, sound, look, always rubbed me the wrong way.

Pretty much any "metal" looking bass. As a metal musician, I like to think I'm a little classier than that.

Other than that I'll play whatever.

I dunno...I really can't think of anything I wouldn't at least TRY to give a test-drive to. Visuals are not a disqualifying factor to me. I'd even play a Ric for a night.
