Oops...the title of this thread misled me. I'm thinking of bass lines that can be adapted to other songs that one may not be familiar with, etc., in (most likely) some sort of slightly altered form. For example, Steely Dan used a Horace Silver bass line (which is actually a generic Bossa pattern) for Rikki Don't Lose That Number. Or when a funk line can be instantly made by starting with some sort of root to b7 jump. I'd love to hear about some of these type of "starting point" lines that people have used in other tunes for their own benefit.

Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius in Barbary Coast... Bought an Am. Std. Jazz bass with custom shop 60s pickups but it doesn't sound like that...
I thought also that the OP was referring to a bassline that can fit in a bunch of places, rather than just our favorites. Anyhow, this one comes in handy:
For example, "Money" is indeed a great bassline but not easy to borrow from unless you play a lot in 7/4, and our drummer can't count that high.
