Are you certain that's a bass amp? With those tubes in it, I'd sooner guess that it's a guitar amp considering the EL84s break up fairly easily and really tend to be bright and crispy.

They are not too rare today in smaller guitar amps.

It seems like in the late '90s EL84s were used in a lot of smaller guitar amps where you would expect 6V6s. I am assuming they were cheap and more available than 6V6s then? Just guessing.

Mesa Boogie had the Studio 22, the Blue Angel, and the Subway series amps. Fender had the Blues Junior, and Pro Junior. The Epiphone Valve Junior was popular a few years ago.

But before the '90s the only thing I can think of them in are Vox amps and those Kalamazoo practice amps. I never saw one in any bass amp before.

Not positive anymore about the Kalamazoo but I do remember "lower grade" practice guitar amps with 6AQ5s?

Traynor guitarmates used EL84's in the early 70's. Two power tubes churning out 20 awesome watts. Great sounding amps, for guitar or very low volume bass.

What I gathered from the seller when I bought it was: it might be built for both bass and guitar, hence the 2 unswitchable channels(?).

Also, doesn't the Ashdown LB30 Head feature EL84s?

It goes with 4 Ohms. I use a 500w 4x10 EBS cab with it. On low volumes it sounds absolutely gorgeous, but when playing with a band it doesn't quite have the oomph to drive those speakers and the sound isn't very pronounced.
