the 3 times ive played a lakland, they were skylines. I've played a JO4, and 2 different 44-02s. There's something about the (lack of) finish on the back of the neck that bugs me. and the thickness... I play one and think "soundgear". I'm hoping the US ones feel better.

I guess I just prefer a finished neck. even my Stingray's gunstock oil finish is preferable. its a shame really. on paper, laklands seem right up my alley.

Different strokes for different folks. FWIW, the US ones have an oil finish. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Satin finish on the Skylines -- just enough grip so that I don't slip around too much. On some of my other basses, I sometimes have a hard time keeping my thumb in the right place on the back of the neck because they're so slick. I find the neck to be just perfect, for me.

Trust me try a Lakland Skyline Jerry Scheff bass. There is nothing thick about the neck and it's the most comfortable neck I've ever played.

I think anything that isn't white would look better. That bass has been on the workbench for a couple of months now. Currently in the process of getting some new P/U's in there.

All Lakland four-string U.S. and Skyline basses (except the 44-01) are available with Dark Stars.

Once Fred Hammon has the five-string Dark Stars ready to go, all five-string U.S. and Skyline basses (except the 55-01) will be available with them.

Hi there laklanders thank you all for your imput on this thread !
I have recently been gasing for a fretless. what advice could any of you offer eg. should i go for a 4 or 5 , signature series or standard , skyline . I do like the whole retro look on the jazz style basses!

any opinions would help. thx
