I saw this picture today, and it made me think of my parents, RIP.:)

Dr. King and Ms. King were from my parents generation. My Mom even knew Dr. King because she taught at Selma University, a Baptist College that King and other ministers supported. It is cool to see them so young. It blows me away that I am now so much older than they were in that pic. Life is short!

i didn't realize jesse jackson coined the term african-american, or that it was so recent. wow.

I remember when I was a child in the 1960s the term "negro" was in common usage. Then as I grew older the term "black" came into vogue, then "Black American", then "African-American". I look forward to the day when the African will be dropped and they'll simply be known as "Americans".

They should just drop hyphenated terms for people. Most of us are several generations removed from our native lands. That's my opinion anyways.

That's an old debate that has been had many times. Please bring it up somewhere else if you must.
