Dogs are dogs. People are people. Dogs need training and rules to live by so that their behavior is tolerable - and beyond that, appropriate. Failure to control or train a dog reflects poorly on the owner. (And note, it's an OWNER. The dog is not in charge.)

So do people....our "training" is our childhood, our "owners" are parents/guardians and our "rules" are laws and things society expects us to do.

More similar than we'd like to think. Obviously there are some differences (like people reaching a stage of independance from their parents/guardians), but rules and training are just part of how civilization works!

Good tangent:

Dogs are pack animals. In a functioning pack, there must be an "alpha" or dominant individual that chooses what the pack will do and when. If you, as the owner of a dog, neglect to take on the responsibility of being the "alpha", then your dog, sensing the lack of leadership, will attempt to do so in your place.

Dogs, like kids (good points dj), need structure, discipline, boundaries, and direction. The difference is that a dog needs it for its entire life, whereas a child needs it until they're no longer a child.

If those that were SUPPOSED to be responsible in both situations WERE being responsible, the world would be a much better place for both humans and dogs.

I agree on all points.

I love dogs! :hyper:

At present, however, I have been adopted by this cat. Her name is Minnie.
